This is where our tea comes from: our own 700 acres and the partner gardens we select, in the misty old tea mountains of Zhenyuan County, Pu'er, Yunnan.
Altitude does most of the work. Above 1,800 metres, days are warm, nights are cool, and a near-constant mist slows the leaf’s growth and thickens its skin. The bush puts more energy into roots than into new shoots, so the leaf carries the depth that only a slow-growing tree can make. That is why every garden we use — our own 700 acres and the partner gardens we select — sits in Zhenyuan County at 1,800–2,200 metres. Our real work is finding tea gardens that meet our standard and partnering with them long-term — high altitude, old trees, no plantation or young-tree leaf, traceable lots. If any of those checks fail, we do not buy.
The setting matters too. Our certified partner facility is registered in Mengda Town, Zhenyuan County, Pu’er — where red soil runs deep, the tea gardens sit at the edge of unbroken primary forest, and right next to us sits the national-level Wuliang Mountain Nature Reserve. It is the combination of those three — soil, primary forest, and protected watershed — that decides what the leaf actually tastes like.
Tree age matters most of all. Tea trees between 76 and 100+ years send roots metres into the soil and draw up minerals from deep horizons. The leaf picks up complexity that a young, surface-rooted bush cannot. That is what we mean by “old” in old-tree tea: a deeper root system, a longer life, a more layered cup. A young-tree plantation can copy the leaf shape; it cannot copy the root.
That is why our three grades — EU Standard, Organic and Ancient-tree Organic — are the same gardens, same trees, different certification. Every batch starts in the same leaf and diverges only in what is signed at the bottom of the page. The leaf is the truth; the certificate is the proof.
In January 2025, when our certified partner facility took on these high-altitude plots, what we received was not new infrastructure — the trees, soil, mist and craftsmanship were already here. What was new was a long-term promise: that we will look after these gardens so they outlast us. That is the meaning behind the name “Mountain Whisper” — the mountains speak, and we listen carefully.
"The mountains speak. We translate." — this is not decoration. It is literally what we do: turn what the old trees of Zhenyuan have to say into tea that the world can taste.

Plantation tea, ever
A bud at dawn, a handful of leaves at noon — the year’s of first harvest is hand-picked, sun-withered and carefully sorted. These are the beginnings of our sheng, white and black teas.
We could buy tea from anyone. We don’t. Every garden we work with — including our own 700 acres — has to pass the same bar.
Above 1,800 metres or we pass — below that line, the tea simply does not taste the same.
We walk the rows ourselves, count the trunks, and check harvest records against the age claim.
No plantation tea, no young-tree tea — and no gaps in the pesticide records. Ever.
Every lot we buy gets an SGS lab report before it is allowed to ship.
Nothing about old-tree tea is quick. Here is the rhythm of a year at 1,800–2,200 metres.
Hand-picked from the first flush: the youngest buds, picked one by one. This is the harvest that makes our sheng, white and black teas.
Rain and heat push growth; the gardens rest. We use this time to audit partner gardens and plan autumn lots.
Cooler days bring a second, gentler flush — fewer buds, deeper leaf, prized for ripe pu-erh and aged whites.
Pruning, compost, boundary checks. And tasting the year’s lots, lot by lot, before anything ships.
We choose high-altitude plots in our 700 acres and verified partner gardens — all old trees, no plantations.
Hand-picked by season, processed by our certified partner facility under strict food-safety controls.
Every batch is SGS lab-tested; organic grades carry the formal organic certificates of our partner facility.
FOB worldwide, with full documentation — and a real person who answers within 24 hours.
Our certified partner facility was established in January 2025. What we did not start from zero is the tea itself: behind it is a Yunnan tea business that has been making, sourcing and exporting tea from these mountains since 2015. Mountain Whisper is the brand that connects that craft to the world — the paperwork is new, the hand-skills are not.
